Some cards that found themselves on the restricted list in 1994 that no longer are include Berserk, Ali from Cairo, and Rukh Egg (that last one was a "devastating" combo with Wrath of God ). During the intervening year, the concept of a "format" along with standardized play had begun to solidify, and Ejsing said most players were building and playing under the constraints of a 60-card deck and a four-card limit, as well as restricted cards lists, meaning only one copy was allowed in a deck. The year after, he was back at the same RPG convention in Odense, and this time, the event was host to a Magic: the Gathering tournament. "The format we played was just.' Magic.' You more or less just played with all the cards you had." "I only had one Sengir Vampire, but five Demonic Tutor s so I could always find it," he said. "That was when it hit us: this was limited and we bought all we could."Īlthough his well had run dry, Ejsing said he was able to build a mono-black deck, and at this time, he added, there was no four-card limit for Constructed decks. "The store ran out of Arabian Nights boosters and when we asked them when there were more coming of them, they told us they were not gonna be back. ![]() His enthusiasm for the game proved to be infectious, and soon enough he'd convinced three more friends to take up the game, with the group buying more cards to supplement their collections. "I bought some Antiquities and Arabian Nights boosters to fill out my starter deck, and went home to learn." "He took me to a bookstore to buy some boosters and a starter deck," he said. A few weeks later, a friend of his offered to teach Ejsing the game he later learned was called Magic. "Some guys were playing this strange card game," he said, and his interest was piqued. Ejsing wasn't alone in seeing the game for the first time: it was 1993, and Magic was in its infancy. Ejsing's brand of dark whimsy has become a staple in the game ever since.Įjsing's first exposure to Magic was at an RPG convention in Odense, Denmark, where he was studying Danish literature at a local university. That dream came true in 2007, with Ejsing tapped to illustrate five cards featured in that year's Lorwyn expansion: Boggart Loggers, Hunter of Eyeblights, Weed Strangle, Changeling Titan, and Guardian of Cloverdell. "Being a Magic card artist was a dream for me," said Jesper Ejsing. I wanted to capture screenshots and film clips for about 90% of my 17 hours in "Uncharted 4." If nothing else, you should play this game simply to enjoy the artistic and technical achievement. Nature, lighting, and character models have never looked so realistic, vibrant, and expressive. Every single environment, moment and set piece is so meticulously designed I was consistently wowed throughout my playtime. Naughty Dog has outdone itself in the visuals department. It's one of the most beautiful games ever made. Here's what I liked and didn't like about this game. ![]() Having said all that, what other games are suitable alternatives to TR? I've seen the Uncharted series mentioned but I'm concerned that it will be too action focused for my tastes.Account icon An icon in the shape of a person's head and shoulders. Maybe my age is starting to show afterĪll but reading through several threads about TR and gaming in general it seems as if I am far from the only one that feels this way. It also seems as if there is a general gaming focus on the packaging (graphics and cinematics) instead of content (great gameplay). TBH I also didn't enjoy the emphasis on the overly long cinematic cutscenes but this seems to be a trend with most newer games (Metal Gear Solid V, GTA5, God of War etc.). The snuff film aspects of Lara's deaths were also a bit disturbing. ![]() There are many games that do both much better, what made TR special was the puzzle solving aspects of the originals. I also feel as if there is too great a focus on the violence and shooting action. The tombs are not really integrated into the path through the game, they feel like an afterthought, things to waste time on once you've completed the main part of the game. There were barely any of the old style puzzles that needed to be solved, and the puzzles that require solving to progress are rather obvious and simple for the most part. While the game looks fantastic and is very cinematic, it was disappointingly easy to complete. The puzzle solving was integrated in such a way that made it a natural part of the gameplay instead of a supplement.Īfter a hiatus of a decade and skipping the PS3 entirely, I recently got myself a PS4 and was excited to play TR Definitive Edition. I also enjoyed TR Anniversary on the PS2, which I found to be quite similar to TR2. The general exploring required to progress through the fame and focus on puzzles instead of action proved enjoyable. I loved the problem solving and the finger gymnastics required of some of the jumping and hanging etc. Subreddit Banner edited for r/TombRaider by u/JadedDarknessīackground: I'm an 'older' gamer and I have very fond memories of TR2 on the PC in particular.
![]() Spend a little extra time in prayer pray especially for our priests (and for me, your pastor) offer some penance or fasting and, maybe even have a glass of wine to thank God for the gifts of the grape harvest, not only for our enjoyment but also to be taken up by Him in the special work of salvation! Thus, I invite and encourage you to do something to observe these Fall Ember Days. And I was very excited to learn that the Church has historically set aside some intentional time of prayer during this very season that has always been so profoundly significant to me on a personal spiritual level! The Fall Ember Days (or Embertide) begin the Wednesday following the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross, which is tomorrow September 14, and thus the Fall Ember Days are observed this Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. As Jesus says after being moved with compassion for the crowds bringing their sick and poor before him, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few so ask the master of the harvest to send laborers for his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-8). And in thanking God for the gifts of the harvest and those used in His redemptive and salvific work, they also became a special time to pray for priests and for vocations. For grapes and wheat (used for the Eucharist), olives (used for Holy Oils), and beeswax (used for candles). But not only thanking God for the physical nourishment of the harvest, but also to especially thank God for the fruits of the harvest that are then used for our spiritual nourishment. “Ember Days,” were a Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday that were set aside in each season (Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer) as special days of fasting and prayer, especially to thank God for the fruits of the earth, of the harvest. And then only a little over a year ago I learned about Ember Days. ![]() ![]() Thus because of their spiritual significance and the exhilarating feel of anticipation of adventure that autumn seems to bring to me, these days in this time of year always have felt like to me its own special little “Liturgical Season” within the Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time. On top of this, the cool season of autumn and the changing of leaves has always felt to me like a season of great anticipation, of new beginnings…starting a new school year and seeing beloved friends whom I had missed all summer, a time of beginning of new exciting adventures, and the coming of winter (which is a season that I, unlike many people, really love). But unfortunately, that goes beyond what I have room for here, but take some time to get to know some of these Saints, and learn about these feast days! Mother Teresa of Calcutta took her name after St. Teresa of Avila, and like her namesake joined the Carmelite Order and also was named with a “Doctor of the Church.” And St. (Like the neat connection between the three St. I could write a whole book explaining to you why all these days are spiritually significant to me, and also other neat spiritual significances and connections. October 7 is Our Lady of the Rosary (thus October sometimes being referred to as “The month of the Rosary,” hence, us usually communally praying the Rosary out loud before Mass in some of our parishes). Jerome, the Feast of the Archangels (Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael), and of the Guardian Angels, of St. Padre Pio, a holy priest mystic with many supernatural miracles attributed to him, who lived in our modern century. On September 23, we have the Feast of St. Tomorrow, September 14, is the Feast of the Exultation of the Cross, and the day after, September 15, is Our Lady of Sorrows. Last weekend, September 5, was the Feast day of St. But this time of year is when we commemorate Feast Days of certain mysteries of our faith and of certain Saints that have been particularly spiritually meaningful to me. ![]() I put “Liturgical Season” in quotes as we are technically in the Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time. Some people are bound to hate the translucent elements, if you do it is possible to reduce the transparency in System Preferences > Accessibility > Display > Reduce transparency. This use of translucency around the operating system is to “give you a sense of place,” according to Apple. As far as we can see this serves no useful purpose, but at least it doesn’t appear to affect readability. ![]() For example, the menu bar at the top of the screen is opaque, and the Messages sidebar is translucent. Some interface elements are semi-opaque so that a blurry version of the window behind can be seen. Other subtle design changes include an increased use of transparency. Safari, and the name of the document you are working on in your word processor will also not be visible. Our only concern is that this does mean that the title of a page in Merging the toolbar and title bar will also help people working on a cramped 11in MacBook screen. In Safari these buttons appear on the same level as the address/search bar. For example, those red, yellow and green buttons have dropped down so that they are not using up a whole line of screen retail estate. For example, Apple has reduced the height of many window title bars in Yosemite. With most Macs a lot wider than they are tall, Apple has made some design choices that make the most of the limited screen height available. This makes absolute sense, after all the old enlarge button was a little redundant and the full screen icon, while useful was hidden over the other side of the screen, which was rather disconnected from the other tools that performed a similar function and therefore quite un-Apple, we thought.Īnother change is the way Apple has simplified the menu bars around Yosemite. Press the Escape key to return to the normal view from full screen view. You will still be able to increase the size of a window as you do now, but you will need to press the alt/option key when you click the green button. The key difference is that when you hover over them, unlike in Mavericks where you see a – and + sign on the yellow and green buttons, the green button will now show a symbol for full screen mode. One of the most obvious changes to the OS X interface is the red, yellow and green buttons that are used to close, minimize and expand a window.
